Proposals are in place to update the town hall’s use as a music and drama venue and provide a heritage centre along with community and heritage learning spaces.
The works are generally within the existing shell of the building, with a new two storey extension to provide additional community spaces and the ground floor heritage centre, opening up to the gardens and Birks of Aberfeldy.
The central space provides both vertical access via a helical stair, and horizontal access via a street access to the refurbished main hall and auditorium that will have a new lighting, ventilation and sound system, as well as a retractable seating system. Direct access is given to the lesser hall, kitchen, original school room, and to the middle room that provides a local lunch club.
Thermal efficiency shall be improved throughout by replacing internal finishes and upgrading windows, new heating and ventilation systems and energy efficiency measures.
Works to the entrances and glazing the arches have commenced with consultation in progress with all local users of the Town Hall.
